Every year in Orange County, National Philanthropy Day—produced by the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals— honors organizations and community members selected for their outstanding volunteer efforts, charity donations and commitment to the betterment of our community. National Philanthropy Day was founded to recognize the great contribution philanthropy makes to our society, and to honor individuals, businesses and support organizations that are active in the philanthropic community. Initiated nearly 30 years ago by Orange County’s own Doug Freeman and celebrated internationally, the awards ceremony has recognized more than 1,000 honorees, and has become one of the most prominent philanthropic recognition events in Orange County.

For Orange County’s nonprofits, attending the awards luncheon and participating in National Philanthropy Day is a great networking opportunity. Organizations can meet philanthropists that are making a difference in our community, share and learn best practices with nonprofit peers and learn about how they can nominate and recognize their own charitable partners, to be considered for next year’s National Philanthropy Day.

On November 20 at the Hotel Irvine Jamboree Center, National Philanthropy Day will be honoring the following Orange County distinguished individuals and organizations:

  • General William and Willa Dean Lyon, Outstanding Legacy Award

  • Catherine Klein Sorenson, Outstanding Philanthropist

  • MOST Brand Development + Advertising, Outstanding Corporation or Business (Small)

  • Rutan & Tucker, LLP, Outstanding Corporation or Business (Medium)

  • Disneyland Resort, Anaheim Ducks, Angels Baseball (ACT Anaheim), Outstanding Corporation or Business (Large)

  • Future in Humanity, Outstanding Youth or Youth Group

  • Ralph B. Linzmeier, Jr., Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser

  • Je’net Kreitner, Grandma’s House of Hope, Outstanding Founder
