OneOC’s 15th Annual Day of Service Honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
OneOC will unite Orange County’s most prominent companies with community volunteers in making Martin Luther King Jr. Day a “day on” instead of a “day off” in support of others
SANTA ANA, Calif., Jan. 14, 2014 – OneOC, formerly known as Volunteer Center Orange County, has been working to match up community volunteers with projects at local nonprofits in preparation for the organization’s 15th annual Day of Service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
From January 17 through January 20, 2014, volunteers from all over Orange County will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by dedicating their time to community service. Volunteers will be participating in projects coordinated by OneOC such as assembling food boxes for the hungry, restoring natural habitats and repairing and cleaning books, among other cleaning, painting and refurbishment projects at nonprofits around the county.
Volunteers will hail from some of Orange County’s prominent businesses and organizations including: Bank of America, Cox Communications, Experian, The Irvine Company Office Properties, Starbucks, Deutsche Bank, United Way, OCCC and PIMCO.
“As the title media partner for OneOC’s Days of Service, Cox Communications and its employees believe that volunteering one’s time or talent can change lives,” said Jessica Barbier, Community Relations Manager. “By joining together, we can help our neighbors overcome the hardships they face each and every day.”
OneOC believes that by working together, the community can make a significant impact on several key initiatives, including safety net services, health care, education and the environment.
OneOC President and CEO Daniel J. McQuaid hopes that volunteers will inspire their friends, neighbors and co-workers to also participate in this Day of Service and give back to the community in King’s honor.
“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’” McQuaid reflects, “His legacy inspires everyone to come together and provide solutions for many of our pressing local and national problems.”
OneOC’s Day of Service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would not be made possible without the support of its following sponsors: Cox Communications, Bank of America, Edwards Lifesciences, Experian, Leo Brennan Family Foundation, PIMCO Foundation, Disneyland Resort, State Farm, Western Digital, Union Bank, RC Baker Foundation, Charles and Mildred Schnurmacher Foundation, Inc., The Irvine Company Office Properties, Deutsche Bank, Target, The Charitable Foundation, Service for Peace, Youth Service America and Cesar Chavez Foundation.
